Sick of losing hours of your life to bumper-to-bumper gridlock around Quezon
City? There’s finally some bright light at the end of the traffic tunnel.
The vital ₱2.2-billion connection bridging Mindanao Avenue straight to
Quirino Highway has officially smashed through the 96% completion
milestone—meaning smoother, faster drives between Metro Manila and the North
are practically right around the corner.
Zooming into the final stretch
If your daily commute feels like an endurance test against endless
tail-lights, take heart. The much-awaited NLEX-C5 Northlink project is
zooming into its final stretch, hitting a massive 96% completion rate for
its initial phase.
We are talking about Segment 8.2 Section 1A—a vital two-kilometer
elevated highway engineered to link the Mindanao Avenue toll plaza
directly to Quirino Highway. Spearheaded by NLEX Corporation, this
₱2.2-billion asphalt ribbon isn't just about pouring concrete; it's
designed to bring sweet relief to notorious choking points like Quirino
Highway and Mindanao Avenue, shaving precious minutes off your daily
transit time.
According to Luis Reñon, President and GM of NLEX, construction efforts
are being sped up to give commuters a faster, more cost-effective commute
while fuel prices remain volatile.
“We want to give motorists greater freedom not only in how they travel,
but also in how they spend their time and money. While fuel prices and
other travel-related costs are beyond our control, we can provide reliable
road infrastructure that helps people reach their destinations more
efficiently. That is the value we aim to deliver through this project.”
Once fully operational, this round-the-clock elevated corridor is
projected to accommodate all vehicle classes, welcoming roughly 11,000
drivers daily. Think about what that means for your morning or evening
run: smoother routing, less fuel wasted idling in traffic, and an
effortless alternative path linking Quezon City straight into the wider
NLEX network—and onward through the NLEX Connector toward Manila.
Built with modern motorist safety in mind, the stretch comes packed with
high-tech upgrades: closed-circuit television cameras, automated speed
management systems, seamless RFID toll lanes, and bright roadway lighting
to keep things moving safely day and night.
While leadership hasn't dropped the exact grand opening date just yet,
sitting comfortably at 96% means the finish line is well within sight.
Whether you're hauling cargo, riding solo, or heading out for a weekend
escape up north, this game-changing shortcut is shaping up to make daily
driving a whole lot less painful.
