Heading home to the province this Holy Week? Whether you're chasing the cool
breeze of Baguio or heading down south for a long-overdue family reunion, the
last thing you want is to be flagged down by a traffic enforcer before you
even hit the expressway. To help you navigate the "Exodus" with ease, the MMDA
has officially rolled out its 2026 Lenten transport plan.
MMDA Holy Week 2026: No Coding, No Excuses
Planning your departure is about to get a lot easier. MMDA General Manager
Usec. Nicolas Torre III has confirmed that the agency is prioritizing your
"uwian" by relaxing traffic restrictions across the metro.
Here is everything you need to know about the 2026 Holy Week Number Coding
schedule:
The Coding Breakdown
- April 1 (Holy Wednesday): The Expanded Number Coding Scheme is suspended starting at 12:00 PM. You can hit the road early without worrying about your plate ending in 5 or 6!
- April 2 (Maundy Thursday) & April 3 (Good Friday): Coding is automatically lifted all day as these are regular holidays.
- **April 4 & 5 (Black Saturday & Easter Sunday): As always, there is no number coding on weekends.
To accommodate the surge of travelers, provincial buses get a temporary pass
on EDSA. From 9:00 PM on April 1 until 6:00 AM on April 6, buses can ply the
main highway. However, take note of the terminal rules:
- Southbound Buses: Must terminate trips at PITX.
- Northbound Buses: Must end trips at the Cubao Terminal.
24/7 Road Monitoring
Expect a heavy presence on the ground. The MMDA is deploying 2,476 personnel
to man major thoroughfares, transport hubs (airports, seaports, and bus
terminals), and roads leading to popular churches for Visita Iglesia.
GM Torre has enforced a "No Day-Off, No Absent" policy for all field
personnel during this period, ensuring that help is available at every
chokepoint.
