“I'm Tony Stark, I build neat stuff, I've got a great girl and occasionally I save the world, so why can't I sleep,” says Robert Downey Jr.’s tormented billionaire in an opening voiceover.
It could be because of the enigmatic menace of the mysterious badguy behind the third installment of the Iron Man franchise, the first two installments of which earned $1.2 billion at the box office worldwide.
“You'll never see me coming,” says Sir Ben Kingsley’s heavily cloaked Mandarin. “I'm going to offer you a choice, an empty life or a meaningful death.”
Judging by the montage of action scenes hurtling by over the two-minute, 30-second trailer, Tony Stark seems bent on the latter.
Most intriguing is the trailer’s money shot: dozens of Iron Man armored suits flying to the rescue as “backup.” “There are my boys,” says Stark.
The casting of the Oscar-winning Kingsley as the Mandarin, who possesses the Rings of Power that he recovered from a crashed alien spaceship in comic book lore, initially sparked some grumbling. Iron Man’s nemesis from the comics is supposed to be Chinese (by an English mother), but after watching Kingsley chew up (and then destroy) the scenery, even skeptics will be hard-pressed to find fault..
Downey’s buddy, screenwriter Shane Black, has taken over directing duties on “Iron Man 3” from Jon Favreau, who directed the first two movies in the series. Returnees Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle - decked out in brand new patriotic armor - and newcomer Guy Pearce round out the cast.
"Any time I put the suit on, once I get past the initial discomfort, it's still fun," Downey told The News in April, just before the release of “The Avengers.”
"I definitely have a return to the sense of wonder that I had before doing the first 'Iron Man' going into the third on," Downey said.
Movie-goers will see just how much fun when the Golden Avenger returns to theaters on May 3.--Source: Yahoo Movies
