PAGASA: Good weather with brief thunderstorms this Holy Week

Filipinos planning on swimming sprees and out-of-town vacations this Holy Week are advised by the local weather bureau to prepare for brief and isolated thunderstorms, though their forecasts still say the whole country will still be hot and fair all throughout.

According to ABS-CBN, PAGASA forecaster Buddy Javier said the easterlies, or the trade winds which bring warm and moist air from the Pacific Ocean, is the dominant wind system currently affecting the eastern portion of the country.

"Ang prevailing weather system natin dito sa eastern part ng ating bansa ay easterlies. At sa pangkalahatan kapag easterlies, halos good weather ang mararanasan," Javier told dzMM.

Javier, however, said isolated thunderstorms are still expected as a result of the intense heat. He said evaporation occurs and clouds are formed due to the scorching weather.

"Although kapag masyadong mainit, nagkakaroon ng evaporation, nabubuo ang mga kaulapan at nagbabagsak ng ulan. Pero panandalian langito. Pagkatapos noon, balik ulit, at mararamdaman mo na naman ang init," he said.

Javier said in Metro Manila, a temperature of 34.2 degrees Celsius was recorded at 3:50 p.m. on Sunday.

The hot weather is expected to persist, according to PAGASA's 5-day forecast.

In it's Monday 24-hour weather forecast, PAGASA said the diffused tail end of a cold front was affecting extreme Northern Luzon.

Cagayan Valley and the provinces of Aurora and Quezon are expected to have cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and thunderstorms.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country are expected to have partly cloudy skies with isolated rains and thunderstorms, mostly in the afternoon.
