Pacific Rim is directed by Guillermo del Toro from a screenplay by Travis Beacham and del Toro. The film is set in a near future where soldiers piloting giant robots -- called "jaegers" controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge -- battle against invading giant monsters (kai-kaiju) who have mysteriously risen from beneath the ocean.
Del Toro has said the film will be "a beautiful poem to giant monsters".
Del Toro, an Oscar nominee for “Pan’s Labyrinth,” directed the film, which stars Charlie Hunnam of TV’s “Sons of Anarchy," Ron Perlman of the “Hellboy” movies and Rinko Kikuchi of "47 Ronin" and "Babel".
The movie opens July 11 in the Philippines.
